SPA WATER CARE GUIDE/BROMINE INITIAL START-UP TREATMENT 1. Test and Balance water in the following order. Be sure pump is running when adding any chemicals. Alkalinity (125-150ppm) a. if low, (Goodbye Bromine! acidic water, dry/itchy skin, eyes burn, stains & corrodes) add alkalinity increaser per instructions. b. if high, (Bromine will not work! algae growth, scale forms & water clouds) add alkalinity/pH decreaser. pH (7.4-7.6ppm) a. if low, (Goodbye Bromine! Algae growth, acidic water, dry/itchy skin, eyes burn, stains & corrodes) add pH increaser per instructions. b. if high, (Bromine will not work! scale forms, water clouds) add pH decreaser per instructions. Calcium Hardness (175-225ppm) a. if low, (water foams, corrodes metals & you fill slimy) add hardness increaser. b. if high, (scale forms! discoloration, limes heaters & plumbing) drain spa and refill. If source water calcium levels is above recommended range then add TSP (trisodium phosphate) per instructions and follow up with stain & scale. Bromine (3.0-5.0ppm) a. if low, (bacteria & algae growth begin) fill float feeder with bromine tablets and shock b. if high, (strong bromine odor, dry/itchy skin & bleaches bathing suits) add bromine neutralizer. 2. Sequester any metal and scale. This does not apply to Nature 2, Frog and other mineral systems. With pump running, add 1/2oz of a metal & scale control per 150 gal prior to adding any bromo bank, shock or sanitizer and let circulate in high speed for 30 minutes with air blower off. DO NOT INJECT AIR!!! Copper (0ppm) if present, (cloudy water & stains) balance water then add metal inhibitor per instructions. Iron (0ppm) if present, (cloudy water & stains) balance water then add metal inhibitor per instructions. 3. Add 1 Brilliance Start-Up per 500 gal to establish a bromine reserve and let circulate 1 minute. (Without this product, bromine alone cannot dissolve fast enough to show up on your test strip much less satisfy your bromine demand. 4. Add 1/4oz of shock per 150 gal and let circulate on high for 15 minutes with air blower off. 5. Fill float feeder with bromine tablets then adjust flow to maintain an ideal range of 3 to 5ppm. Note: YOU MUST CIRCULATE YOUR SPA AT LEAST 3 HOURS EVERYDAY!!! 6. Add 2oz-4oz of a Natural Enzyme to break down and dissolve body oils, cosmetics and lotions that clog filters. 7. Add 2oz-4oz of a water clarifier to pull together microscopic suspended particles that cause turbidity, (cloudy water), so that the filter will hold them. WEEKLY MAINTENANCE ROUTINE 1. Test & balance water. (NOTE: IF SPA IS USED DAILY THEN TEST EVERY OTHER DAY) 2. Check floater to ensure an adequate amount of bromine present. Add sanitizer (bromine) if needed. Adjust floater to maintain a bromine level of 3ppm to 5ppm. 3. Add 1/2oz of a Stain & Scale inhibitor per 150 gal. CIRCULATE ON HIGH FOR 30 MINUTES WITH AIR BLOWER OFF. DO NOT INJECT AIR!!! 4. Shock with 1/2oz per 150 gal. 5. Add 1/2oz of Sun Natural Enzyme per 150 gal. 6. Add 1/2oz of Sun or EZ-Clor Water Clarifier per 150 gal. 7. Clean scum line with surface cleaner. SCUMBALLS ARE PERFECT FOR REDUCING SCUMLINE!!! BI-MONTHLY MAINTENANCE ROUTINE 1. Drain spa and clean. THIS IS A MUST!!! 2. Clean acrylic surface with SUN POLIGLOS which is a one step cleaner, wax and sealer. DO NOT USE HOUSE- HOLD PRODUCTS! THEY ARE NOT COMPATIBLE WITH SPA CHEMICALS AND WILL RUIN THE ACRYLIC FINISH, STOP UP FIBROUS MATERIAL IN THE FILTER CARTRIDGE AND CAUSE FOAMING! 3. CHEMICALLY CLEAN FILTER-Remove filter cartridge and spray thoroughly with high pressure nozzle then soak in a 5 gallon bucket one bottle of Filter Cleaner and water solution for a period of 24hrs. Then rinse filter thoroughly and reinstall. 4. Before refilling spa, make sure all drain plugs are in and drain valves have been closed then refill spa. 5. After refilling spa and turning on, you may experience Air Lock. This occurs when air is trapped in isolated areas of the plumbing and equipment. After turning on the circulating pump, simply open the drain valve and the air relief plug on the filter top to release the trapped air until water comes out. This will automatically prime the pump as a result of gravity. |
